“I love tacos, more than anybody I’ve ever met, and taquerias are a very happy place for me – in particular this place. I’d always go with my grandmother. They sell the most amazing milanesa taco with nopales [cactus]. That’s a breakfast taco.” – Georgina
Calle Atzayacatl No. 89, Miguel Hidalgo, Anáhuac I Secc, 11370 Ciudad de México, D.F., Mexico; +52 55 5546 6115
“This is my favourite place in the city for seafood. It’s a very old restaurant, very famous. They make the most amazing seafood broth. And you have to try the mojarra frita [fried mojarra fish].”

This restaurant franchise is recommended by almost everybody we meet. “This place is amazing. You have to go for breakfast and you have to eat the chilaquiles [fried corn tortillas]. They give you chicharron [fried pork bits] on the side instead of beans. That’s my favourite thing in the world.”

A rough and ready establishment – plastic plates and small bills – where people congregate to socialise and gossip. “Flautas are like a crunchy, deep fried taco filled with meat or potatoes, and here they serve it with a soup-filled bowl. I’ve been going since I was four and I always take visitors here.”

Bustling food hall where Georgina has her shop. Other shops in the market she recommends include Theurel & Thomas (“My brother and I have decided that these are the best macarons on this side of the world”) and Que Bo!, where we sample brightly coloured chocolates with surprising flavours. Our favourite is Pan de Muerto, which references a bread made just before Día de Muertos as an offering to departed loved ones. It’s covered in sugar and decorated with bone shapes.

The second largest fish market in the world, after Tsukiji in Tokyo. “I go here for fish and seafood, which is always super-fresh. I get octopus from here.”
Av. Santa Fe #498, Cuajimalpa de Morelos, Lomas de Santa Fe, 05348 Ciudad de México, D.F., Mexico; www.citymarket.com.mx
“It’s super posh, but I love it. There’s lots of variety and very high quality, and you can always find what you are looking for. It’s where I go with friends to feel like a ‘lady of Las Lomas’ [the Beverly Hills of Mexico City].”
“I always go here on Sundays. It is a street market: stalls are set up between the streets of Dakota and Rio Becerra on Filadelfia.”
